I DIDN'T WANNA BE A TOPIC THIEF, SO I STARTED A NEW THREAD.
I can't write what I have to say about goverment and the red tape that cost's us billions of dollars in taxes to pay some would be earthy people with some college degree to tell us what they must do and what we can't. Sorry folks but like CT this subject gets my dander up.
MARCHAS 45, AND EVERYONE HERE'S A GOOD ONE FOR ALL OF US TO PONDER WHEN POLITICIANS TALK ABOUT A TRILLION DOLLARS THIS AND A TRILLION DOLLARS THAT. I CAN'T IMAGINE ANYONE THAT WOULDN'T BE UPSET ABOUT TAXES AND WHAT THE GOV'T IS DOING. I THINK THE GOV'T SHOULD TAKE TIME TO FIGURE SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS INSTEAD OF JUST THROWING MORE $$$ THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE AT THEM. JUST LIKE SEBAGO SAID:
I agree Ct, however we don't get to vote on most of this stuff. The state just does it. They slowly strip away our rights right under our noses and tell us it is for our own good.
Last week I ran into some archaeologist that were from the Maine Preservation Society. They were digging at one of my detecting sites trying to find any evidence of historical importants. Eventually they are going to widen the road and and it will run right through there. I guess the state has to research like this before they go ripping up the land on any major construction project. These people had been there for a week and had no clue. I showed up with old maps, family names, property owners and web sites and they were blown away. They said "Wow you are organised and informed". I couldn't resist saying "You guys do this for a living and don't have ANY of this information!" "Why do you even bother?!" They didn't even know who owned the property they were digging on! They said they hadn't found anything all week. So I fired up my metal detector and dug a pile of relics in just a half hour. They were amazed. Not one of them had ever used a metal detector and they had all kinds of questions. I had fun but the whole situation didn't sit right with me. I am starting to realize that they were just going through the actions of "historical preservation" to act like they care. The state was just doing it as a formality before they destroyed the land to put in a road. The state wants a road and they are going to get it no matter what. The less informed these people were the less likely they were to hinder development. I know you cant step out your front door in Maine without stepping on history and we do need roads, but If I did this I would be in jail and made out like a grave robber, but the state gets to do what ever they want. That stuff really ticks me off! They would like to create this warm and fuzzy appearance of preserving our history but will get what they want at its expense. It is actually private hobbyist, clubs, society's and in our case forums that are the most passionate about preserving history and learning from it and passing on that information to others. Keep up the good work guys!
IF THEY ACTUALLY TOOK TIME TO RESEARCH THINGS LIKE ALOT OF US MD'ERS DO, THIS GOV'T MIGHT BE IN A WAY BETTER FINANCIAL SITUATION. BY THE WAY HOW MANY TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT IS THE U.S. NOW??? HERE'S A GOOD LINK ON WHAT A TRILLION DOLLARS ACTUALLY IS.
